DESCRIPTION: EPW - Thomas Grignion, Covent Garden, London, gold repoussé verge fusee, 49mm, 18-22K gold OF original pair cases, inner bearing London hallmarks for 1768, incuse "H . T" marking likely for casemaker Henry Cleaver Taylor, outer with repoussé classical scene featuring a seated Father Time holding hands with a standing putto, inner case with shuttered winding aperture, "Grignion London" marked white enamel dial, KWKS, verge escapement, diamond endstone, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock with grotesque mask at its neck, s#1728. Gross weight of assembled watch 80.5 dwt (125.1 g). Watch comes with a short gold-filled chain and a key as pictured. An extraordinary example with stunningly beautiful repoussé outer case in essentially as-new condition.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running after a sluggish start, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, excellent gilt tone, short scratches at edge of plate adjacent pillar positions; nearly flawless dial with very small fine scratch above center; excellent hands; outer case shows no wear, no dents or dings, exquisite crisp engraving detail with no reduction, button latch good though with some nicks and small scratches to button surface; inner case shows hardly any wear, sizable dent to lower right perimeter of rear, small nick at upper left perimeter of rear; bow pivots freely; good bull's-eye glass crystal.
